Japanese trading and investment company Mitsubishi Corporation has announced plans to significantly increase its stake in Philippine conglomerate Ayala Corporation through a deal valued at approximately $711 million<\/strong>. The investment will raise Mitsubishi\u2019s ownership in Ayala from 4.7% to 15%, marking one of the company’s largest strategic moves in the Philippines in recent years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The transaction, worth around 44.5 billion Philippine pesos<\/strong>, values Ayala shares at 650 pesos each, representing a premium over the company’s recent market price. Once completed, Mitsubishi\u2019s voting rights in Ayala are expected to increase to approximately 20%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mitsubishi and Ayala have maintained a business relationship for decades, collaborating across multiple industries. The latest investment is expected to deepen cooperation in consumer-focused businesses while also creating new opportunities in real estate, renewable energy, and infrastructure development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Founded in 1834, Ayala Corporation is one of the Philippines\u2019 oldest and largest conglomerates. The group has investments across banking, telecommunications, real estate, energy, healthcare, technology, and infrastructure sectors. Its subsidiaries and affiliated companies play a major role in the country’s economic development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ayala is also known for its interests in major businesses such as Ayala Land, Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), Globe Telecom, and GCash parent company Mynt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The investment comes at a time when Ayala could benefit from the anticipated public listing of Mynt, the operator of the popular digital wallet GCash. The company recently received approval for an initial public offering (IPO) that could become one of the largest stock market listings in Philippine history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
